The Lakeshore Nature Preserve is a 300-acre outdoor learning laboratory that serves the teaching, research, and outreach missions of UW–Madison. It is also a beloved natural area for students, faculty, staff, and community members, providing opportunities for activities such as hiking, bird watching, campfires on Picnic Point, or simply relaxing in nature.
Thanks to a generous gift from Jerry Frautschi and his family, the Preserve will soon have a visitor and education center. The Lakeshore Nature Preserve Frautschi Center will showcase UW–Madison’s commitment to sustainability and serve as a welcoming and accessible “front door” to the preserve.
Why We Need Your Support
We need your support to raise $5 million for long-term operations and hands-on experiential learning opportunities in this new, highly sustainable, and energy-efficient building. The center will feature interpretive displays, improve access to public restrooms and drinking water, and expand learning opportunities for both the campus and community.
